First Communion

First communion preparation begins in January of each school year following First Reconciliation in the Fall.  A parent meeting is first held in order to catechize and seek the help of the parents.  The children meet weekly for one hour.  In addition to formal classroom study, the children visit the church for a tour and explanation of the Liturgy, meet often to sing songs and watch videos that prepare them for First Communion.  As the time for First Eucharist nears, the children, accompanied by a parent, are interviewed to assist them in their readiness for the Sacrament.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a two year process beginning in Grade 9.  The young teens meet weekly for one hour each week.  We use the Benziger textbook which is based on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. In addition to formal classwork these young people pray together, are encouraged to participate at Sunday worship and participate in service projects and social activities. The First Year Confirmation Candidates have sponsored a simply Lenten meal, visited My Brother's Keeper and participated in a Good Friday Fast.

The Second Year Confirmation Candidates performed special service projects, both as a group and individually.  Some of these young people are very involved in on-going service especially through the schools they attend.  In addition to study, they also worship and pray together, meet socially, go through an interview and take part in a day retreat that is parish based.

The goal of the Program is to continue to work for, and with the youth, and allow them to achieve ownership in the Parish.  The Program is working at expanding to accommodate 11th and 12th graders.  These young people are offered the opportunity to come together socially, to pray, study and give service to others. They are also encouraged to become Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, and Religious Education Teachers.

Funerals

St. Clare's Bereavement Ministry is serviced beautifully and sensitively at the time of funeral planning by Claire Cavanaugh, our Bereavement Coordinator, who assists with longer range issues following the death of a beloved family member.  Claire helps each family preparing for a funeral with details which surround the liturgy. Her work in this regard is invaluable and always appreciated.  We have an annual Bereavement liturgy in November which tolls the bells as names are recited of all who have died in the past year.  A Collation follows with suitable literature made available.  Bereavement videos and literature are likewise available through Claire's sensitive ministry.  Our Bereavement Coordinator's training and formation is through Parish supervision by the clergy.

Volunteering - Helping Others

St. Clare's has many volunteer opportunities for its parishioners.  We are visible in outreach to the needs of the poor through monthly services of meals at Pine Street Inn coordinated by Joanne McCarron, and at Fr. Bill's Place, led by Mary Glynn.  Financing of these efforts is supported through the Poor Box contributions of generous parishioners.  Equally impressive are daily clothing contributions to the St. Vincent DePaul Clothing containers.  Special donations of clothing are left behind the garage to benefit St. Francis House in Boston.  The Parish is active at My Brother's Keeper in Brockton in support of the many needs of the poor served by this wonderful organization.

Within our Parish we welcome the assistance of those interested in helping in following areas:
